A STUNNING 25-yard volley opened the scoring as Chester Nomads 2nds knocked out Malpas Reserves in round one of the Chester and District Challenge Cup.

John Roberts turned his second half strike into a brace and Dale Harris also netted. The visitors could find no reply.

Nomads’ 3rds were stamped on 8-0 by Duddon United. The final scoresheet included Rob Edge (2), Ian Brooks, Sean Roberts (2), Paul Schofield, Steve Whitaker and Stuart Wibberley.

Nomads’ 6ths also failed to emulate the 2nds, losing 3-1 at home to Crossway. Mike Kelly scored after a 2-0 half-time score, but John Latham, Pete Syddall and Phil Goff took the points.

Christleton Reserves rose to the challenge when Saltney Vets came visiting, scoring four after the break to win 6-1 through Tom Shone (2), Brian Butcher (2), Dave Carman and Steve Hampson.

Tom Christopher made the difference for Kelsall when they hosted Tarvin 2000 Athletic. Ending 2-1, Adam Grimes got the visitors’ only goal after a locked first half.

Penalties were needed when Ashton Lions hosted Blacon Youth Vets. Graham Bunting (2) and Matty Kilgallon made it 3-3, but the visitors were better from the spot, taking it 4-2.

Tarporley Vics added to a 4-0 half-time away lead to finish 6-0 against Barrow Athletic, through Alex Moore (2), Henry Buckley, Adam Walton, Alex Rowntree and Mike Franks.

Going into the break all square at 2-2, Blacon Youth Reserves got the better of visitors Upton AA Reserves with two more. Scott Broadbent (2) and Jamie Rogers netted for the hosts while Dave Roberts and Lewis Carter got the first half strikes for Upton.

Jamie Schwartz scored for Boughton Athletic but they lost 3-1 at home to Saughall Thursday. A Phil Lloyd brace and Danny Allmark took the points. Peter Mort and a Paul Finch penalty, both in the second half, won the day 2-0 for Cestrian Alex against visitors Barrow Athletic 2nds.

In the Premier Division, Frodsham United beat Kydds Athletic 5-1 away from home, with Ian Cox (2), Mike Hasslem and Tom Southall all netting. Highfield Athletic v Newton Bears was postponed.

In Division Two, Runcorn Albion beat visitors Vicars Cross Doves 3-0 through Karl Calwell’s brace and one from John Urmston.
