WITTON went back to the top of the UniBond League on Saturday and consigned Mossley to relegation.

They survived a heart-stopping moment in the 86th minute when, with the game winding down and three points seemingly secure, a shot from

Steve Burke from outside the box crashed against an upright.

A Mike Moseley 20-yarder after three minutes announced Witton's intention, but they were quickly caught out by Luke Moyo-Modise, who completely miskicked when clear.

From a corner former Albion defender Gary Furnival headed over. Then slips by Liam Brownhill and Brian Pritchard let in Moyo-Modise again, but Ian Kearney covered quickly.

Albion's best opening of the half came in 36 minutes but Steve Connors made a hash of the final pass to Adam Warlow.

But Albion took the lead in 52 minutes when a corner was headed by Pritchard to Warlow and on to Peers, whose fierce shot was diverted under the angle of post and bar by Moseley at full stretch.

Within two minutes Mossley were level. Firstly, visiting goalkeeper Steve Wilson saved easily from Lloyd and play moved to the other end, Burke suddenly finding space and he finished neatly.

Peers, a constant menace on the right flank, created the winning goal. He reached the byline and, while Wilson parried his cross, the ball fell to Warlow, who gleefully fired home.

Witton: Kennedy; Hockenhull, Pritchard, Kearney, Brownhill (M Jones 73); Peers, Lloyd, Brown, Connors (Gaghan 65); Warlow, Moseley (Farquaharson 80).
