NICKY YOUNG scored both Marine's goals in a 2-0 win at Witton Albion last night to put them second in the Uni-Bond League Premier Division.

Marine were boosted before the kick-off with the news that Steve Hollis passed a fitness test, taking his place on the substitutes' bench.

Going into the game Witton had lost four games in a row, while Marine were on a 21-match unbeaten league run. But Marine were indebted to Andy Ralph for three top-class saves early on.

Witton had a goal disallowed and they also had a reasonable claim for a penalty turned down.

The game, however, turned right on half-time. Lee Mulvaney was brought down on the edge of the box, Danny Byrne floated the resultant free-kick in and Nicky Young reacted quickest to head the ball past Andy Baxton.

In the last 15 minutes Ralph once again demonstrated his prowess with three more top class saves to win the man-of-the-match award.

Marine sealed the game in the 90th minute when Jensen linked with Young, who hit a first-time shot that Baxton got a hand to but couldn't stop crossing the line.

MARINE: Ralph, Murphy, Latham, Farley, Connolly, Brookfield, Nesbitt, Dawes, D Byrne, Young, Mulvaney. Subs: Jensen, Dever, Hollis.
