Barnton 2, Middlewich Town 3

MIDDLEWICH added the District FA Cup to the Mid Cheshire League championship and League Cup to the Seddon Street cabinet on Wednesday but only after a resurgent Barnton gave them a nasty scare.

Former Middlewich goalkeeper Barry Crellin had a superb first half and kept Barnton level at the break. That changed when Paul Ashwell powered home a header and Andy Whitney hit the top corner of the net with a right-footer.

But Town became a little complacent and that was all the encouragement Barnton needed to push forward and they scored well-taken goals through Paul Allen and Dave Tasker.

But within seconds of Tasker's equaliser Whitney had raced through Barnton's defence and restored Middlewich's lead with another top-corner finish, this time his left foot.

Barnton were unlucky not to get a Mid Cheshire League First Division point at least at Styal on Saturday.

They went down 1-0 to a deflected shot while Tasker went closest to scoring for Barnton.

LOSTOCK GRALAM beat off having to apply for re-election thanks to a 3-0 win over Eagle Sports on Thursday. Fullwood was their hat-trick hero.
