WEARY Chester Nomads were unable to bounce back from their promotion heartbreak as they lost the final of the West Cheshire League Haworth & Gallagher Bowl 3-1 to Mossley Hill Athletic at Runcorn Town on Tuesday.

Highly-rated youngster Kieron Smith pulled a goal back for John Cadwallader’s tired side, who were displaced from second spot in Division Two on Saturday by Marshalls after they went down 5-3 at the Liverpool outfit in their final game of the season.

Goals from Ilya Haycock, George Pulford and Smith were in vain for Nomads, who will face the winners of tomorrow night’s reinstated quarter-final tie between Blacon Youth Club and Christleton in the last four of the Chester & District FA Senior Cup.

The semi-clash clash, scheduled for this coming Tuesday, will be Nomads’ 38th game of their marathon campaign and their eighth in the last month.

Relegated Blacon Youth Club suffered their 25th defeat of the Division One season on Saturday as they were beaten 3-0 at Heswall.

Blacon Youth Club Reserves have ended their Division Three campaign on a high.

The Cairns Crescent boys won 2-1 at home to Ellesmere Port Reserves on Saturday thanks to Damien Rowley (2) before the same player earned them a 1-1 draw at home to Hale on Monday.

Christleton Reserves fell 4-1 at home to leaders Richmond Raith Rovers on the same night.

Danny Carter offered a consolation for the Swans, for whom Nick Cushing and Robert Hartley struck in their 3-2 loss at Runcorn Town Reserves on Saturday.
