CHESTER Nomads were the only local side to make it past the first round of the West Cheshire League Pyke Cup on Saturday.

A Kieron Smith goal was enough for youthful Nomads to win 1-0 at Willaston.

Blacon Youth Club (Aden Shannon) were unlucky to go out 5-3 on penalties to Cammell Laird after it finished 1-1 after extra-time at Cairns Crescent while a Todd Reid brace was not enough for Upton AA as they lost 3-2 at home to Marshalls.

Steve Finlay netted for Christleton as they went down 2-1 at home to Ashville.

The match was Christleton’s first since Craig Warrington announced he was stepping down as manager.

Title-challenging Helsby (John Coady, Jamie McCartney, Wes Huizer) were 3-1 winners at Merseyside Police, Chester Nomads Reserves (Ryan Trousdale, Rob Connolly, Nicky Carroll) drew 3-3 at home to New Brighton Reserves as Upton Reserves (Nathan Freeman, Jon Eymond-Jones) were beaten 3-2 at Neston Nomads.
