CHRIS Webber was the spanner in the Mechanics' works as the Blues got back to their winning ways on Saturday, but they left it deep into injury time to do so.

Winsford were missing defenders Dave Chambers and Dave Turner, but it had little effect as the makeshift defence looked solid.

It was the 13th minute before the first attack was launched and Ian Wilkinson broke free, but a good tackle saved the visitors.

The introduction of Stuart Wellstead and Liam Goulding in the second half, though, gave the attack a little more presence, but Wilkinson might have done better in the 75th minute when he fired just wide of the left-hand post.

But in the third minute of injury time, the Blues were rewarded when Rob Hope set Stuart Wellstead off down the right and he squared to give Webber a simple tap-in.

This Saturday, Winsford go to Chadderton for a league match with a kick-off at 3.00pm.
