CHESTER chairman Stephen Vaughan is looking forward to the season opener against Accrington Stanley on Saturday, but off-field he is hopeful things will quieten down a little at the Deva Stadium.

City have brought in 16 new players as they aim for promotion, but the transfer activity has meant Vaughan has rarely had a day off.

"It's been a hectic couple of months, virtually every day we have been talking to agents or players and hopefully now that the season is about to start, that side of the job will ease up," he said. "Football can take over your life, it feels like we have been in virtual permanent discussions, morning, noon, and night, so now I just want us to focus on playing.

"We have our squad in place and I am really looking forward to the new campaign. "We have an attractive fixture against Accrington on Saturday at the Deva, and I'm sure the atmosphere will be first class."

City are without new signing Ricky Ravenhill, who is serving a one- match suspension picked up at the end of last season.

Vaughan revealed that Chester would be registering their valuation of central defender Paul Linwood to the Football League today.

A fee for the former Tranmere Rovers player will be decided by a tribunal, which is likely to sit at the end of this month, but City have to register their valuation prior to him turning out in Saturday's game against Stanley.

Meanwhile, City have been informed by the Football League that their current wage bill exceeds the salary cap, so it could mean that they are forced to loan or transfer one or two of their newly-assembled squad in order to conform with the capping regulations.
