Chester FC boss Steve Burr has completed the signing of Brad Abbott from Barnsley.

The 20-year-old midfielder has joined on an initial one-month loan deal.

Abbott has been with the Tykes since he was 16. He spent time on loan with Harrogate Town in 2013 and signed a two-year contract extension with Barnsley last summer.

He has featured eight times for the League One side this season, and played against Chester when the teams met in the FA Cup, starting in the tie at Oakwell in December before being substituted for Dale Jennings.

Blues boss Burr, who also completed a deal for Canadian goalkeeper Jonathan Viscosi today, said: "Brad played against us in the FA Cup match. He is a strong lad with lots of energy and has first team experience for Barnsley which can only benefit us, and if he's half as good as our Rhys Oates who we also had off Barnsley then he'll do well for us."

Burr, who celebrates his first year in charge of the Blues this weekend, has been busy since the January transfer window opened.

He takes his Blues side to Southport on Saturday (3pm).
