Runcorn Town Res 6, Helsby 2: KEVIN Ward helped himself to four goals against never-say-die Helsby in Carlsberg West Cheshire League's Division Two.
Watching first-team manager John Crompton must have been impressed by Ward's display and the way he linked with Ian Cocks.
Ward headed home an inswinging corner from Ged Bushell in the seventh minute.
As Helsby pressed for an equaliser, Daryl Evans stood tall while youth team keeper Adam Judge saved from Ryan Maloney at close range.
Darren Moore then hammered home a second for Dave Leach's Town side, albeit largely against the run of play, in the 24th minute.
Craig Threllfall was denied by a post but a defensive error allowed Ward to get his second in the 42nd minute.
Helsby pulled one back in the 50th minute. Maloney's fine shot from the right edge of the area dipped over Judge into the far corner.
Within a minute, however, Runcorn were again three to the good. Webster released Cocks on the left and he unselfishly squared for the unmarked Ward to complete his hat-trick.
Ward added his fourth with a deflected effort after Darren Mayers had put him through on the left.
Kevin Hammond's mistimed challenge led to Helsby's Richard Keene making no mistake from the penalty spot.
The final goal of a highly-entertaining game came in the 86th minute - Moore's defence-splitting pass gave Tomlinson a clear run down the left and he outpaced the cover before pulling the ball back for Ian Lancaster to drive into the bottom corner from 15 yards.
