Busy Chester FC boss Neil Young will raid neighbours Vauxhall Motors to make highly rated winger Craig Mahon his fourth signing of the week.

Having sealed deals for former Chester City hero Kevin McIntyre, Jason Jarrett and Lee Pugh, Young was last night hoping to complete the capture of the 23-year-old Irishman.

Dublin-born Mahon, who was released by Wigan Athletic four years ago, is out of contract at Motors and desperate to join the Conference Premier new boys.

Young said: “Every time I’ve watched Craig he’s been outstanding.

“He can play on the left, on the right and in behind the forward. He’s very clever and knows the game.

“His work ethic, willingness to learn, attitude and commitment is also first class.

“He’s had a fantastic time under Carl Macauley at Vauxhalls and hopefully we’ll give him an opportunity to showcase his skills in the Conference.

“I’ve never seen a lad more keen to come to Chester FC than Craig Mahon. He realises it’s a massive opportunity for him.

“All of the signings we’ve made so far are the same. Every one of them has got a great professional attitude, great character and a great commitment to come here and do well.”

Young kicked off his summer recruitment drive by bringing in McIntyre, Jarrett and Pugh.

Midfielder McIntyre, 35, won the Conference title with Chester City in 2004.

And next season he will be back playing for the Blues in non-league football’s top flight after he agreed a one-year contract following his release from League Two Rochdale.

Also penning one-year deals are Jarrett and Pugh.

Former Bury, Wigan Athletic and Norwich City midfielder Jarrett finished last season playing for Airbus UK Broughton.

He had started the 2012-13 campaign at FC Halifax Town, for whom he produced an outstanding individual performance at the Exacta Stadium in September.

Pugh, 20, will be less well known to Blues fans.

A left-back, he arrives having captained Clitheroe in the Northern Premier League.

Pugh, Jarrett, McIntyre and Mahon could yet be joined at the club by Craig Curran.

The 23-year-old attacker was a huge success during a loan spell with the Blues last season.

And Young has not given up on getting Curran, who is currently on loan at League of Ireland Premier Division outfit Limerick from Rochdale, back on a permanent basis.

“Craig is over in Limerick until the end of June, that’s when his contract finishes and that’s when his loan finishes,” said Young, who yesterday released striker Marc Williams.

“We’ve had contact with Craig but he’s also been made an offer by Limerick. Craig is definitely on the radar but whether we can complete I don’t know.

“There are a lot of people on our radar.

We’re talking to a lot of players and hopefully in the next week to 10 days we can complete one or two more signings.”
