Vauxhall Motors are looking for the help of fans and football insiders to track down members of the club’s 2002 FA Cup giantkilling team.

The part-timers from Ellesmere Port made national headlines 11 years ago when they dumped out Queens Park Rangers in a first round replay at Loftus Road.

Now officials want to reunite the team to mark the start of the club’s 50th anniversary celebrations, with as many of the line-up as possible appearing in a charity friendly against a team of Tranmere Rovers old boys at Rivacre Park on Sunday, August 4.

Motors chairman Alan Bartlam said: “We have put the word out to fans and friends to see if they have numbers or contacts for any of the players. The cup run was 11 years ago and none of the players who were involved at the time are still with us today. They are here, there and everywhere. We’ve managed to make contact with about half of them.”

The players Vauxhall Motors want to contact include Andy Ralph, Danny Collins, Wayne McDermott, Carl Nesbitt, Steve Aspinall, Tony Fearns, Nicky Young, Matthew Hogg, Kevin Thompson and Nick Welton.

Anyone who can help is asked to use the contact form on the club’s website: www.pitchero.com/clubs/vauxhallmotorsfc/contact-form.

Motors kick off their pre-season campaign at Bootle on Tuesday, July 16 (7.30pm).
