OWEN BROWN saw his new charges record their first win under his management, in last night's UniBond League Cup tie at Rivacre Park over Rossendale United.

The Motormen were always the brighter in a lively cup tie and took the lead on 21 minutes when indecision in United's rear-guard allowed Cumiskey some space and he took full advantage, firing home a right-footed shot into the far corner from just outside the area. After Rossendale's early pres-sure in the second half, the Motor-men struck the crucial second goal on 65 minutes when Fearns, cutting in from the right, squared the ball to Cumiskey, who this time converted with his left foot in some style.

Four minutes later, the contest was effectively over when Lynch put Fearns away in the inside left slot, before the Vauxhall striker pulled the ball back for Lawton, who crashed home a fine third.

For all the visitors' purposeful play, they never managed to test debutant home keeper Kinsella.

VAUXHALL MOTORS: Kinsella, Spellman, McDermott, Robinson, McAuley, Lynch, Nesbitt, Lawton, Fearns, Robertson, Cumiskey. Subs: Griffiths, Whelan, McCann.
