THE Motormen continued their impressive pre-season campaign with a hard-fought victory over their young Merseyside neighbours Everton at Rivacre Park on Saturday.

Both sides looked lively throughout, although it wasn't until the 26th minute that either side created an opening and just when Everton forward Bjarni Vidarsson looked set to put Everton ahead he sent his header over the crossbar.

The Motormen replied immediately with Steve Porter shooting wide form 25 yards, while further efforts from the home side through Moogan and then McNulty went begging, while John Paul Kissock wasted a great opportunity in between for Everton.

The second half began brightly and Vauxhalls took the lead in the 55th minute when substitute Anthony Wright finished of a neat move after Everton keeper Ruddy had blocked O'Donnell's shot, Wright was on hand to stroke the ball into an unguarded net.

Everton were level just six minutes later when Steven Morrison was on the end of a Lee Molyneux cross and although substitute keeper Tim Dittmer got his hands to the ball he couldn't prevent it crossing the line.

As both sides pressed for victory it was veteran Gary Martindale who sealed the results for Motors when heading home a last-minute winner from Stuart Whittaker cross .
