VAUXHALL MOTORS had to settle for a point from this tough Nationwide North match against their Midlands opponents, despite taking an early lead at Rivacre Park.

The Motormen scored after nine minutes. Porter picked out Cumiskey, who smashed home a fine goal.

In a spell of pressure, Motors keeper Tim Dittmer did well to palm away a volley from former Tranmere player Flynn, before he tipped over another header from Appleton.

But from the resultant corner, the visitors drew level, as Flynn's firm header cannoned off the underside of the bar, enabling Rickards to stab home the rebound from close in after 36 minutes.

On the resumption, the Motormen gave as good as they got, but the 73rd-minute dismissal of Rickards once again opened up the game, with the hosts sensing a victory.

Olsen had a fierce on-target shot blocked and Wright was unlucky to hit an upright from an acute angle, before United substitute Sylla wasted a good opportunity.

Tomorrow night, the Motormen trek to Kettering in a rearranged league game.
