VAUXHALL FC's players are gearing up to face the biggest stars of their football lives after manager Owen Brown revealed that several big names from Anfield will be turning out in Friday's friendly match at Rivacre Park (7.30pm).

All of LiverpoolFC's first team players who have not travelled to the USA for the Reds' pre-season tour are expected to figure in what should be the most star-studded evening in the ground's history.

Former African Player of the Year, £10m striker El-Hadji Diouf will play alongside French aces Anthony Le Tallec and goalkeeper Patrice Luzi as well as homegrown players like Jon Ostemobor and John Welsh.

Brown, who is employed by Liverpool FC as community liaison officer, said: 'It will be a good test for us and a fantastic opportunity for the people of Ellesmere Port to see their local side take on some of the biggest names in the game.'

The Motormen were in action last night at Bangor City, losing 2-1 with Carl O'Donnell netting for the visitors late on after the Welsh side had gone 2-0 up.

Brown said: 'We knocked the ball around well but conceded a sloppy goal 20 minutes from the end. I'm pleased though as it was a good workout for us.'

Vauxhall still hope to add some more faces before the Nationwide North kick-off on August 14, and Brown confirmed he has signed striker Anthony Wright as a replacement for Leighton McGivern who has gone to Coca Cola League Two Rochdale on a three-month contract.

Brown said: 'The door is still open for Leighton and he's not somebody I've completely given up on. We wish him all the best but Rochdale haven't exactly shown faith in the boy by only offering him a three-month deal.'

Vauxhall have been drawn away to holders Woodley Sports in the Cheshire Senior Cup on Tuesday September 13.
