CHESTER CITY chairman Stephen Vaughan last night sold one of his companies - and the deal will allow him to devote a greater amount of time to running the Coca-Cola League Two club.

Vaughan Trading Limited, which was a part of Vaughan's business portfolio, was sold for a substantial sum to a southern-based consortium.

Vaughan said: "The deal was extremely attractive and quite frankly too good to turn down.

"What it does do is free up some of my time, so I can play a more hands-on role at Chester City." The Merseyside-based businessman continued: "The football club which was part of VTL, was not involved in the deal, and I still retain my 75% shareholding of the club. Obviously I will continue with my other outside business interests."

Chester are currently giving trials to the former Everton midfielder Brian Moogan, the 20-year-old was a regular member of the Blues' reserve-team squad last season.

After their weekend FA Cup exploits, it's back to league action for City this evening, when they travel to the West Country to face Bristol Rovers at the Recreation Ground.

Manager Ian Rush welcomes back defender Phil Bolland, and midfielders Stewart Drummond and Ben Davies, who all missed Saturday's trip to Halifax Town because of suspension.

Rush is hoping that his team can carry the same sort of commitment they showed at Halifax into tonight's game. He said: "Bristol Rovers are a strong physical side, and whilst they have struggled a bit lately, we know that it will be a tough challenge down there.

"They didn't play over the weekend, sometimes that can work for you, whilst at others it's not much of an advantage, because in this case we hope to take the positive performance of Saturday through to this game."

Chester have a doubt over the fitness of defender Darren Edmondson who is suffering from a groin strain while striker Cortez Belle is serving the final match of his four-game ban.
