CONFERENCE leaders Chester City will be involved in the match of the day in the FA Trophy third round, when they meet Halifax Town at the Deva Stadium on Saturday, January 10.

The draw paired the sides in one of four all-Conference clashes.

With the total prize money for the eventual winners amounting to £90,000, this season's competition is extremely lucrative to clubs beneath the Football League.

City chairman Stephen Vaughan and manager Mark Wright are both hopeful that Chester will have a successful run in th is seaso n 's competition.

"My dream is that we do a Trophy and Nationwide Conference double," said Vaughan.

"The first prize of £50,000 and the other money you accumulate by winning the Trophy is extremely attractive for clubs, so we are very keen to do well in the competition.

"But if I had to choose which one I would prefer to win, it would obviously be the Conference."

Wright added: "It's pleasing to get a home tie in a cup competition, but these are one-off games and bring with them an extra excitement for the fans.

"We have done well at home this season, so we will look forward to the game. Halifax are a well-organised side, and we know that we will have a close game against them.

"But we have a number of important Conference matches, before we can even contemplate the Trophy game against Halifax Town."

Ironically, Halifax are City's next league opponents when they visit The Shay on Saturday.
