NANTWICH Town have kicked off a scheme to bring football to rural children.

The Wrenbury Dabbers is a Saturday morning coaching programme held at Wrenbury School.

Nantwich chairman Clive Jackson said: 'This is the first of many projects we have planned as part of our football development programme and we will be rolling out the scheme to other rural areas. Wrenbury was the first village we identified and with the help of the school, there has been a great response.

'Particularly pleasing is the number of girls who are taking part as women's football, which is the fastest-growing sport.

'We want to give every opportunity to good young players but equally encourage those who have never kicked a ball before.'

The sessions are being run by Matthew Johnson and first-team centre-half Steve Davis.

The club wishes to thank Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council's sports development unit, the Cheshire County FA and the South Cheshire Youth League for their assistance.
