RUNCORN Town returned to West Cheshire Division One as Champions, with a 3-2 win over Manweb securing both promotion and the league title.

The game, which was Town's 11th straight victory, got off to a bad start when Manweb's Ashton Gibiluru turned in a corner from close range.

However Connor Taylor, making his first team debut after some good performances in the reserves, soon broke down the right and crossed for Andy Faraday to bundle home.

Manweb were not to be deterred though and took the lead again, with Gibiluru hitting an unstoppable shot from 20 yards. On the stroke of half time it was 2-2 with Town scoring a near identical goal to the first - Taylor broke on the right and crossed for Faraday.

Town missed a host of chances throughout the game and it looked destined to be one of those days, but

man-of-the-match Taylor secured the title winning points with Town's third. He burst through the offside trap on the right and advanced into the box before scoring at the second attempt, the keeper having saved his first shot.

Meanwhile, Runcorn Town Reserves showed what they can do, with an under-strength side holding North West Counties Reserve League side Ashton Athletic Res.

With Connor Taylor, Ged Bushell, David Ginever and Matty Johnson all called up for the first team game (and Ben Stubbs unavailable), Town gave trials to a couple of youngsters - goalkeeper Jake Garner and forward Anton Ellison - who both put in good performances.

After a goalless first half, Ashton soon went 2-0 up before Ellison pulled one back by heading home John Dover's cross.

And with 20 minutes to go, Danny Cummins scored a free kick.
