NANTWICH Town are to appeal against their expulsion from the Cheshire UniBond Senior Cup.

The Cheshire County FA has upheld a complaint by Congleton Town that the Dabbers fielded an ineligible player in their 1-0 quarter-final success at Booth Street last month.

Congleton claimed central defender Steve Davis had not been signed in time for the tie.

But Nantwich secretary Bernard Lycett insists the club has not breached rules and will appeal against the decision.

He said: 'As far as we are concerned, we registered Steve according to the rules. As we read it, the Cheshire FA have changed the rules by saying the player must be registered for seven clear days.'

Witton Albion await Nantwich or Congleton in the semi-final, to be played at Wincham Park on January 20.
