STEVE Davis is satisfied he now has a squad strong enough to make an impact in the UniBond League.

The Nantwich Town boss has swooped to sign striker Darren Alexander, from Hednesford, and former Port Vale youth midfielder Ashley Carter.

Having already captured midfielder Glynn Blackhurst from Alsager, Davis is confident he has enough quality in the squad to do well in the Midlands Division.

He said: 'I don't think we will make many more changes. Of course, you can never rule out more signings because we are always looking out for good players, but I am fairly happy now.

'We got promotion with a very good side so there is no need to make big changes. We want to keep that continuity.

'I'm very pleased to have got Darren and Ashley. A lot of clubs were interested in Darren but he was very impressed when he came down and saw our facilities and heard about our ambition.

'Ashley has good pedigree. He was released by Vale and spent time at Accrington. He will be hoping to use us as a springboard back to the Football League.'

Former Telford man Alexander, who scored 10 goals for Hednesford last season, is a student at MMU Cheshire. Carter is a speedy attacker who can play central or wide.

Meanwhile, Nantwich Town U15s entered two teams in the Stockport Junior Blues Tournament on Sunday - and ended up head to head in the final. The Dabbers beat the Diablos 15-14 on penalties.

The club has announced that its treble-winning U16s team, managed by Tony Ledwards, has successfully applied to join the Premier Division of the North West Youth Alliance League.

The U18s league includes clubs like Altrincham, FC United of Manchester and Salford City FC. All home games will be played on the club's new state-of-the-art synthetic pitch, at Kingsley Fields.

Nantwich will hold trials for youngsters at U8-U16 level over the next four weeks, at Malbank School. The dates and times are: Sunday, June 24: U11s (10am-noon), U13s (1pm-3pm).

Sunday, July 1: U12s (10am-noon), U14s (1pm-3pm). Sunday, July 15: U15s (10am-noon), U16s (1pm-3pm).

In addition, the U8s-U10s try out every Saturday between 9.30am-11am. Girls only sessions are between 10am-11.30am, and youngsters aged four-seven play between 9am-10am, on Saturdays.

* DEAN Stokes has added more firepower to the Bullets for the coming season.

The player-boss, who has already snapped up strikers Dave Whittaker from Hednes-ford and Simon Burton from Warrington, has now landed the signature of one of the North West Counties League's most prom-ising players.

Chris Smith, who was named Congleton Town's young player of the season last term for his impressive goalscoring exploits, has now joined the squad at the Town ground.

Stokes said: 'I'm very pleased to have signed Chris. We want to have plenty of options up front, and competitions for places.

'That's something we lacked last season, but that won't happen again. It will enable us to try different combinations and tactics up there, and be flexible within games. All good teams have three or four good strikers and we have that now.'

The new trio join fellow attackers Simon Eldershaw, Chris Budrys and Peter Heler in the Alsager squad. Stokes also moved to sign Congleton's Gerald Courtney, who hit 28 goals last season, but his work commitments proved a problem.

Alsager start pre-season training on Saturday, June 30.
