NEW Macclesfield Town manager Paul Ince has made enquiries about taking the Chester City striker Drewe Broughton on loan.

Ince, who was unveiled on Monday as the new Moss Rose manager, is working hard to improve his squad who currently lie firmly rooted to the bottom of Coca-Cola League Two.

City chairman, Stephen Vaughan said last night: "We have received an approach from Macclesfield asking about the availability of Drewe Broughton.

"However, Boston United are also showing interest in the lad, and it is likely that we shall allow the player to talk to both clubs.

"Drewe hasn't figured regularly in our starting line-up recently, so possibly a loan move may be beneficial to both parties."

Chester have made enquiries in the last couple of days about the availability of the Leyton Orient striker Lee Steele and Brentford's former Peterborough United forward Calum Willock, and last night Vaughan revealed that another striker was also interesting the Deva Stadium outfit.

"We are still awaiting responses from both Steele and Willock, but Boston's Antony Elding is another player who could meet the sort of requirements we are looking for, and he is also coming into our current thought process," said the chairman.

Meanwhile, City have indicated that youngsters Chris Holroyd and Paul Rutherford will be allowed to leave the club on loan, in a move designed to allow them to gain regular first team football.

Both players will be included in the City reserve side, who face Tranmere Rovers in a Pontin's League Cup tie at Vauxhall's Sports Ground later this evening.

Former Rovers keeper Phil Palethorpe and central defender Graham Allen will also be included in the City line-up.
