RAINHILL Town moved to within a point of Division One leaders Cronton Villa in the Warrington & District Football League.

As all other games in the division fell foul of the weather, Town came from behind for a 1-1 draw at Blackbrook.

Pearson deservedly levelled things up in the second half with the same player being denied a potential winner two minutes later by a fingertip save.

Rainhill have three games in hand on the tabletoppers as do Monks Sports and Blackbrook, who are a further two and four points respectively off the title pace.

Just one fixture was possible in Division Two with Windle Labour Club triumphing 4-3 over their visitors Grange Safeway at St Helens.

But four games survived in Division Three, including the eagerly-awaited top-of-the-table match with leaders Runcorn Athletic facing second-placed Penketh United.

In another tight affair, Athletic claimed a 3-2 win to tighten their grip.

Elsewhere, Widnes Bayer went down 3-1 at Eagle Sports while Village Social crashed 4-0 at Winwick United thanks to a hat-trick by Marc Debrander and a solitary strike by Andy Cannell.

Ford Reserves drew 1-1 at home to Reserve Division One leaders Sidac Social.

But the result will suit un-beaten Sidac more than Ford, who look the only side capable of halting the St Helens men.

Moorfield Reserves fielded a very strong line-up for their visit to unbeaten Fearnhead Reserves in Reserve Division Two.

Fearnhead had won a close game at Moorfield earlier in the season but this return match was over as a contest after a first-half onslaught which saw Moorfield romp into a three-goal lead.

In a game marred by a nasty injury to Fearnhead's Nick Fitzpatrick, who broke an ankle in a challenge, the hosts were overwhelmed 4-1.

Reserve Division Three's Run-corn Albion Reserves missed out on a chance to close the gap at the top when they lost 2-1 to a resurgent St Michael's 3rd in possibly the surprise of the day.
