TONY HIBBERT has been praised for his generosity after the Everton defender pledged to donate part of his testimonial proceeds to two children's charities.

Hibbert will be honoured on Wednesday, August 8 when AEK Athens visit Goodison Park in a game to mark the academy graduate's service to the club.

And the 30-year-old has opted to share some of the proceeds from the game with two worthy causes – Claire House and Rainbow Trust.

A spokesperson from Claire House Children's Hospice said: “The children and staff are extremely proud to be one of Tony’s chosen charities for his upcoming testimonial. We are a home from home for local children who suffer from life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. We rely on the generosity of people like Tony and all the local community to continue to provide the services that our children and their families depend on.

“We would like to congratulate Tony on being given a testimonial. He has been a fantastic and loyal servant to Everton and we are honoured to be associated with him.”

The other beneficiary from the game, Rainbow Trust Children's Charity, were equally grateful upon hearing the news.

“We are delighted that Tony Hibbert has chosen to support Rainbow Trust and to make a donation as part of his testimonial.

“Rainbow Trust Children's Charity provides emotional and practical support to families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness. Rainbow Trust's Family Support Workers join the family in their own home and are there to provide practical support. We are contactable 24 hours a day for families in crisis from diagnosis, through treatment and even after bereavement.”

Tickets for the testimonial are now on sale and can be purchased from evertonfc.com/eticketing or by calling 0871 663 1878.
