NO one foresaw Director of Football Damien Comolli getting the boot along with the club doctor.
But for all the headlines and speculation it should not disrupt the team’s plans for today’s game one bit. And I don’t believe it will.
I don’t know what Comolli did or what a Director of Football is supposed to be about. Basically he’s a chief scout, I guess.
But he’s a guy in a suit rather than a tracksuit so I don’t see why it should affect the players or Kenny Dalglish. Truth is he’ll probably be reassured by the words Tom Werner came out with, backing him.
But it does prove that Werner and John Henry are not just careful owners – but ruthless men in pursuit of success. And that’s a good thing.
Today will hopefully be a great day for Liverpool and their fantastic supporters but it can’t disguise the fact that we have been woefully under performing and under achieving in the league.
I just hope these firings remind everyone who pulls on that red shirt what a privilege it is to do so. They have to then give everything they’ve got week in, week out for our great club – because the shirt they wear won’t do it on its own.
It’s up to them to deliver – because we now know failure is clearly not going to be accepted.
At Anfield, it never must be.
