TEENAGE Wrexham goalkeeper Danny Ward is set to join Premier League giants Liverpool within the next 48 hours for an initial fee believed to be in the region of £100,000.

The Wales under-19 international, a product of the Dragons’ Centre of Excellence, yesterday underwent a medical at Liverpool’s Melwood training complex and excitedly used the social networking site Twitter to confirm he had come through it with flying colours.

Although there has as yet been no official confirmation of the move from either club, it’s likely that in addition to the initial fee Wrexham will be in line for further payments if 18-year-old Ward fulfils his potential and goes on to play first team football for either Liverpool or Wales and there will also be Ša sell-on clause should the youngster move elsewhere to further his career.

Ward, who joined his hometown club as a 14-year old, is in his final year at the Centre of Excellence and, although he has not had a first team outing for the Dragons, he made his senior debut in a one-off loan game for their Blue Square Bet Premier League rivals Tamworth last season, winning the man-of-the-match award against Hayes & Yeading.
