CHESTER CITY last night appointed former Tranmere Rovers and Preston North End Youth Development Officer Ronnie Taylor as head of their junior scouting system.

Taylor, who also assisted in the youth development department at Liverpool, has been responsible for unearthing more than 30 youngsters who have gone on to play in the Football League or the Premiership.

"I spoke to Stephen Vaughan (Chester City chairman) and the plans he has for the club and the youth development are extremely exciting. It is an opportunity that I couldn't refuse.

"When I was with Tran-mere Rovers I unearthed players like Jason Koumas, Iain Hume, Alan Mahon and Steve Simonsen, so hopefully we can find players of that quality for Chester City."

Taylor added: "I intend to put a scouting system into place at the Deva Stadium, as well as utilising our contacts in the Irish football scene.

"My job entails finding youngsters from the ages of seven up to 19 and I can't wait to get started and find the next Koumas, Simonsen or Gregg Blundell, who I also brought to Prenton Park in my time there."

Taylor takes up his appointment tomorrow, and already he has made plans to bring in one or two scouts around the country.

City's first team are next in action on Saturday, when they take their unbeaten away record to London to face Barnet at Underhill.
