CHRISTLETON boss Paul Hughes is relishing the prospect of taking the Swans to face Marine Reserves tomorrow in Division One.

After suffering a 3-0 reverse at home to Cammell Laird Reserves in the league last Saturday, Hughes is looking for his side to bounce back.

“You never know with Marine whether you will face a strong side or a weakened side,” said Hughes. “It depends on their first team. But they have a great pitch, a great stadium and you can really play football there, which is always nice.”

Christleton will be without defensive stalwart Paul Holyfield, while Craig Warrington is a doubt and Dave Gillick will undergo a late fitness test.

Upton AA travel to Vauxhall Motors Reserves tomorrow hoping to add a second Ellesmere Port scalp to their collection. Dave Wright’s side defeated Ellesmere Port 2-1 in Division One last Saturday, Danny Andrews and Akos Kovacs on target.

Blacon YC’s ongoing search for their first league point continues at home to league leaders Runcorn Town. Their misery continued last week as they failed to register a point for the eighth consecutive match, losing 3-1 at Maghull. Mike Mackin’s strike proved worthless as Maghull took the points.

Division Two saw Capenhurst Villa dish out a 6-2 drubbing to Maghull Reserves with goals coming from Ryan Nichol (2), Mike Hayes (2), Alan Locke and Tom McGill.

In the opening round of the Division Three Shield, Blacon YC Reserves were unlucky to emerge empty handed against Southport Trinity Reserves, losing 3-2 at home. Matty Vickers and Mike Price kept Blacon in contention but they couldn’t quite find the equaliser.

In the league, Manor Athletic fell to a 1-0 home defeat to Christleton Reserves, Danny Carter on target. St Werburgh’s also lost by a narrow margin, Mersey Royal beating them 4-3 at home. Shaun Campbell opened the scoring and a brace from Carl Reed kept things tight but the Birkenhead side found that bit extra to win.

Capenhurst Villa Reserves tumbled out of the Wirral Amateur Cup in the second round, losing 5-2 to Bronze Social, Andy Newland scoring both Villa’s goals.

Willaston progressed, however, winning 5-4 on penalties after taking West Kirby Reserves to 3-3 at the end of extra time thanks to goals from Dave Forbes (2) and Mark Lui.
