FADDILEY laid down an early marker for the new season with a surprise 5-1 win at Bentley on the opening day.

Shrewsbury Town boss Jimmy Quinn netted twice, as did Brian Adams, while Liam O'Reilly hit a fifth. John Scarlett got the consolation.

Champions Willaston White Star started where they left off, returning a 4-1 win against promoted Wrenbury.

Mike Griffiths scored for Wrenbury, but a Lee Heath brace and single strikes from Gary Wood and Kristian Bache gave White Star the points.

Goals from Dave Barker and Barry Stalgis gave Belle Vue a 2-0 win over newcomers Crewe Corinthians, but Clay Lane (Hollinshead and Scanlan) took a point from a 2-2 draw with Peacock (Stafford and Finn).

The Elephant (Hanson 2, Nurton and Butterley) ran out 4-1 winners over AC Wickstead (Adams) and Hop Pole put the traumas of last season behind them with a 2-0 win over Express.

Salvador (Wiggins and Barnes) saw off The Beeston 2-0 and a Robinson goal was not enough to save Fox Elworth against Railway Hotel, whose 2-1 win came courtesy of Truan and Kaye.
