AS Alsager Town return to the bread and butter of First Division football this weekend, boss Dean Stokes says his team must start converting effort into wins.

The Bullets have failed to win in the last six games and sit in 12th place following a storming start to their first year in the division.

The Bullets' Chairman's Cup quarter final game against Cammell Laird was due to be played on Saturday but a frozen pitch meant it went ahead instead as the Chronicle went to press last night.

Next up is a visit to Belper Town, in a game Stokes says is a must win.

He said: 'We've had a few injuries to key players but hopefully they will have cleared by Saturday. Paul Ireland and Ryan Dicker are both touch and go but I think I will be back.

'Steve Elks is also out but when my senior players are back, I'm sure we will push on. I'm pleased with the effort of the players but there's been too many costly errors and we are not being clinical enough in front of goal.

'I do expect to start seeing some better results and we need to be beating teams like Belper, who are only three places below us in the table.'

Stokes says Alsager's transitional period has been difficult but he is aiming to bring in some fresh blood to overcome it.

Newcastle Town stopper Scott Bentley has signed on loan to add competition to Phil McGing and talks are ongoing with Congleton Town hotshot Gerard Courtney.

Stokes added: 'We've got Scott on a 24-hour recall basis and we need him to put pressure on the number one spot. We aren't rushing Gerard into a deal and we have other targets if he doesn't sign.'
