Chester FC manager Steve Burr hopes a win at Southport tonight (7.45pm) can kick-start his side's spluttering campaign.

Results and performances have been disappointing overall, although a bright start to the seasons and a handful of impressive wins hint at there being more to come.

Consistency is the word on the manager's lips at present and, following back-to-back 3-2 defeats to Barrow and Lincoln City, he recognises tonight's game now has even greater importance.

"It's going to be a battle and we've got ourselves in that situation with the inconsistency of our results this season," said Burr.

"We know it's going to be tough especially with the way we are at the minute but I know how quickly things can change in football where you put a good performance in and kick on, and that's certainly what we need to do."

The Blues have five wins under their belts including a deserved 3-2 triumph against cross-border rivals Wrexham, a performance which delighted the manager and supporters.

However, an inability to produce that kind of display on a regular basis has been Chester's undoing.

Burr said: "That's the most frustrating part for us. You look at the Wrexham and how the boys were up for it but you've got to be up for every game not just Wrexham.

"That's the disappointing thing at the minute. As individuals we've all got to look at ourselves and pick ourselves up, but we've got to be ready to play in every game with the intensity we had against Wrexham."
