Chester FC returned to pre-season training on Monday morning with plenty of new faces joining some more familiar ones.

Chris Iwelumo, Kingsley James and Sean McConville were among the new arrivals reporting for duty alongside those retained from last season like Craig Mahon and Michael Kay.

Manager Steve Burr and first team coach Jon McCarthy welcomed the new-look squad to the 'Field of Dreams' training base at the Chester Business Park headquarters of main sponsor MBNA.

With access to a top class training grass pitch, artificial pitches, gymnasium and rest areas, the impressive surroundings are on par or better than many Football League clubs.

Burr addressed his squad and a number of trialists hoping to earn a deal for the 2014-15 season before training began, setting out his expectations and making it clear the Blues will not be 'making up the numbers' in the Conference Premier.

Chairman Tony Durkin then welcomed the players to the club and McCarthy set out the pre-season schedule.

First up was fitness testing with heights, weights and heart rates among the measurements taken before the squad faced the Yo-Yo intermittent endurance test, requiring them to run at increasing speeds for 20 miniutes.

Tomorrow will see the Blues taking on the challenge of some outdoor fitness training before the focus shifts to the first pre-season game, a trip to Marine on Saturday.
