WITTON Albion are to sign winger John Stannard a second time.

Stannard was picked up by then-Albion manager Ray Ranson after he was released by Liverpool.

The high point of his one season at Wincham Park was scoring the two extra-time goals against Hyde United which won the 1996 Cheshire Senior Cup.

Stannard went on to play for Northwich Vics, Knowsley, Droylsden, Colwyn Bay and Marine, from where he was released earlier this season. He has since been playing for Aintree Villa on Merseyside.

It would appear manager John Davison will opt for either Stannard or Darrell Dicken, this season's most consistent player, on the left flank.

Danny Salt, the former Runcorn right-sided player who signed a month ago but has been sidelined with a foot injury, is back in full training and will almost certainly figure against Colwyn Bay on Saturday.

Bay are only two points behind Witton - defeat would draw Albion a little further away from the top-12 place they must secure to figure in the UniBond League Premier Division next season.

While Bay have won their last three games, Witton have now gone seven without success and look like a team that has lost its way, a pale imitation of the side that scored 22 times in five straight wins in September.

Davison is now urgently seeking a striker to replace the departed Simon Burton and the injured Carl Frost alongside Mike Moseley.

He points out only half the season has gone and time is still on Witton's side.

Not to qualify for the Premier Division in non-league's restructured pyramid is, according to the club, 'unthinkable', and the pressure might be effecting the performances of several players.
