SHOPPERS in Halton Lea on Saturday got more than they bargained for.

For officials and supporters of Runcorn Linnets set up a stall in the Town Square to spread the word on the North West Counties League club.

Board member Glyn Davies said: 'Can I say thanks a lot to all the club members who helped out.

'It was a fantastic day. We sold a lot of merchandise but it wasn't a case of going there and making a load of cash.

'We were there to promote the club, which we did in a great way.

'The public were really interested in the club and lots of conversations were had with lots of people - a lot of them new-town people.

'It was great to see lots of young people showing an interest and taking match posters and Trust membership forms away.'
