Tarporley Vics 1 Moore United 1

DESPITE having four key players missing, Vics managed a draw with table-topping Moore.

Dan Haralambous pulled an early shot wide and James Cooke found space to fire one effort goal-ward, only to see it bravely blocked by a defender.

Moore created little in the opening period, and Vics capitalised by taking the lead.

A corner from Haralambous was nodded clear, but the onrushing Cooke caught it crisply 25 yards out with a brilliant dipping volley that gave the keeper no chance.

With Vics growing in confidence the second goal looked increasingly likely. But Moore’s equaliser came after the interval when a loose ball in the box was hit past Callum Reckless.

Maine Road Res 0 Malpas 1

MALPAS snatched the points through hard work, despite the hosts dominating the first half.

Only the resilience of the Malpas defence and some wayward finishing from Maine Road kept the scores level.

Malpas scored after 33 minutes against the run of play when Danny Lloyd powerfully met Jack Oakden’s corner to volley home.

Malpas then had a handful of opportunities towards the end to extend their lead as Oakden posed a constant threat.

Boss Robbie McWilliams said: “This was a fantastic team performance.

“We had seven regular players missing and yet came away with the points.

“The lads worked extremely hard on a heavy pitch and I was delighted with the team's defence.”
