Southport v Chester FC – Vanarama National League.
When and where?
Tuesday, October 13 (7.45pm) at Merseyrail Community Stadium, Southport.
What has Steve Burr had to say about it?
"It's going to be a battle and we've got ourselves in that situation with the inconsistency of our results this season," said the Blues boss.
"We know it's going to be tough, especially with the way we are at the minute, but I know how quickly things can change in football where you put a good performance in and kick on, and that's certainly what we need to do.
Any team news?
Luke George is likely to miss out on the trip to his former club but the midfielder is close to a return to first-team action having been sidlined with a pulled thigh muscle at the beginning of September.
However, winger Craig Mahon is back in contention for a starting berth having recovered from a pulled quad muscle that his kept him out of the past three games.
Tell me about Southport...
Managed by former Chester City captain Paul Carden, the Sandgrounders have struggled so far this season and sit third from bottom having won just twice in their 15 games.
They did, however, begin October with a win after claiming the three points at Woking, a place where Chester suffered a 5-2 reverse earlier in the campaign. But Southport were unable to build on that performance and lost out 1-0 at home to fellow strugglers Torquay United on Saturday.
Carden's side have won just once in seven home games so far this season but the Blues back-line will have to be wary of striker Cole Stockton, on-loan from Tranmere Rovers, who has netted three goals in five games for the Sandgrounders.
What does Southport's form look like over the past 10 games?
What happened the last time the two sides met?
Both sides ended a goalless encounter with 10 men at the Merseyrail Community Stadium on January 17, with Kingsley James and Richard Brodie both being given their marching orders in a forgettable encounter.
Current Blues midfielder George was on the opposing side that day while former Chester players Dominic Collins and Paul Rutherford also featured for the home side.
