BLUES skipper Paul Linwood is in the running for the Northwest Football Awards player of the year accolade.

Nominations were unveiled this week and Linwood is one of six players in the League Two category, the others being Danny Adams (Morecambe), Gary Jones (Rochdale), Paul Mullin (Accrington), Paul Scott (Bury) and Danny Thomas (Macclesfield Town).

The categories, divided into the five leagues from the Premier League to the Blue Square Premier, enable football fans across the region to have their say and vote for their player of the year, who will ultimately win this year’s coveted Northwest Footballer of the Year Award, sponsored by Brown Shipley.

Last year’s winner, Stockport’s Ashley Williams, was rewarded not only for his phenomenal on-pitch success, but also his contribution off the pitch within his local community.

The winners will be announced at the Northwest Football Awards ceremony at the Midland Hotel in Manchester on November 17.
