THE odds on Window Shades finishing runners-up in the South Wirral League's Robin Hodgson Division lengthened, following Saturday's disappointing 2-1 defeat at rivals Avon Ath.

Doubles from Paul Holmes and Derek Easton were supplemented by a Garth Morgan effort, as Shades swept to a 5-1 vic-tory over Leasowe Castle last Monday, and an acrobatic overhead kick from Holmes on 55 minutes put Shades in the driving seat at Avon.

The Widnes outfit then caught the visitors on the break twice with goals from Paul McGuiness and Paul Coventry to seal victory.

Avon are now favourites to finish in second spot, after also winning on Wednesday, 5-2 at Leasowe Castle. Adam Kinner and Ben Gayler hit Leasowe's consolations. Champions Bebington Ath lost out 5-3 to Mersey Ferries.
