PEP SEGURA insists there were positives to take from Liverpool Reserves’ defeat to Preston in the semi-finals of the Lancashire Senior Cup.

Toni Silva cancelled out Paul Hayes’ strike but the Reds bowed out 5-4 on penalties at Deepdale.

Boss Segura said: “It was a difficult game for us because we played with a young team. A lot of our players were 17 and 18.

“Losing on penalties is difficult for young players and they are very disappointed.

“We created a lot of chances to score but we did not take them. The players were a little bit unlucky.

“It was an opportunity for the players and they played well. I spoke with them and told them they need to progress every day, focus on their behaviour on the pitch and not on the result.”
