LIVERPOOL under-19s have a lot of work to do to qualify for the NextGen Series knockout following last night’s 2-0 defeat in Wolfsburg.

Rodolfo Borrell’s side have now won one, drawn one and lost two of the opening four matches, and may need to beat both Molde at Anfield next week and win in Sporting Lisbon in November.

Two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half saw the German side triumph. They are now on four points, the same as Liverpool, in joint second place in Group Two.

Borrell’s youngsters dominated the first period and missed two good chances to take the lead through Toni Silva and Suso.

But despite their encouraging start they again went behind against the Germans just two minutes after the restart.

Andax Guleryuz fired in a superb free-kick from 25 yards to leave Liverpool goalkeeper Tyrell Belford with no chance.

Within seconds the home side had doubled their advantage with a well-worked move. Giovanni Millemaci raced down the left, cut inside and unleashed a powerful shot that whizzed past Belford.

Despite late pressure Liverpool couldn’t get back into the match and went down to their second defeat.

Liverpool now face Molde, who they beat 4-0 in Norway, at Anfield next Thursday (kick-off 7pm) before their final group match in Lisbon on November 15.
