SAUGHALL Thursday were eliminated from this season’s Chester FA Cup in the first round after losing 3-2 to Newton Bears on Saturday.

Scott Ditchfield scored twice for Saughall but it was to no avail as Daz Holmes, Ian Riddler and Liam McGovern sent Newton through.

In the opening round of the Tom Gerraghty Memorial Trophy Chester Nomads 2nds offered Moneysupermarket.com no bail-out clause as they sent their hosts crashing out 5-1. Martin Moores (2), Jack Delgado, Mike Jeffers and Jordan Churchill got the goals.

Highfield Athletic romped home against Lodge Bar 8-0 with Chris Larson scoring four, Adam Langton two and Neil Fields and Lee Wheeler completing the result in a game which was 0-0 at half time.

Chris Noden’s strike could not save Vicars Cross Doves as they fell 4-1 at home to Helsby.

Ashton Lions were unlucky to lose out at home to Robin Hood, poor defending contributing to their 4-3 defeat. A Richard Preston hat-trick proved too little as Dan Davies (2), Rob Okell and Adam James scored for visiting Helsby.

Sutton Way Villa held hosts Barrow Athletic for 120 minutes to take their tie to extra time. Steve James and James Watson struck to cancel out Nigel Johnson’s double for Barrow before Villa seized their chance in the shootout and won 4-2.

The Queensferry Sports Premier Division saw Castrol Social slip to a 1-0 home loss against Waggon and Horses. A 25-yard drive from Gary Ellams was more than good enough to clinch victory.

Hoole Rangers claimed all three points as they sent Crossway packing 3-0 thanks to goals from Warren Fowles, Craig Morton and Ray Prior.

Tarvin Athletic could not shake visitors City Bar as they ended up drawing 2-2. Andy Cawley and Mat Edwards hit the target for Tarvin but a brace from Jamie Spencer secured a point for City Bar.

DevaWeb Services Division Two witnessed Hoole Rangers Reserves putting Boughton Athletic to the sword 5-1 away from home. Tom Thorley scored for the hosts but Paul Williams, Jeremy Finnan, Josh Drummond, Dave Lupi and Ryan Lloyd took their chances to post a decisive win.

In Chesterfest Division Three, Richard Flarty and Paul Thomas scored for Halfway House Celtic as they entertained Willaston Nomads. But the Nomads ran out 7-2 winners with goals from John Lloyd (3), Craig Ellams, Greg Hunter, Richard Hughes and Rob Cottrell.
