CHESTER City's Scott Ruscoe last night joined League of Wales leaders TNS Llansantffraid on a free transfer.

The 25-year-old former Newtown player has signed an 18-month contract with the Mid-Wales outfit.

Midfielder Ruscoe has been unable to gain a regular place in City's first team this season, and the recent signing of Stuart Whittaker from Southport has meant his chances of first-team football were even slimmer at the Deva Stadium.

City boss Mark Wright said: "It's probably the best thing for the player and ourselves. Scott has been a model professional during his spell here, but unfortunately I couldn't guarantee him first-team football."

Ruscoe could well be the first of a number of players to leave the Deva Stadium in the next week or so.

Tonight, Chester will send a strong reserve side to face Rossendale United in a Lancashire League fixture.

"I am using the game to watch a number of my first-team squad in competitive action," added Wright. "We have an important FA Umbro Trophy tie against Solihull Borough on Saturday and places are up for grabs."

Included in tonight's side are City skipper Iain Jenkins and striker Jimmy Haarhoff.
