ALL was well that ended well for Linnets on Tuesday.

After enduring a 35-minute kick-off delay due to traffic problems encountered by the visitors and letting slip a two-goal lead, Runcorn came through for a vital win.

Steve Carragher's men ought to have had the game well sewn up by the interval.

Leading by well-taken goals from non-stop Dave Thompson and skipper Paul Scott, they had totally dominated the first half and on another night, Thomas Lamb alone would have had a hat-trick but finishing deserted him.

Thompson's cool and measured left-foot finish in seven minutes took him level with 23-goal Lamb at the top of Linnets' scoring charts.

Scott caught Oldham's defence in possession for his 11th of the campaign just before the half hour. But uncertainty and mistakes crept into the home side's play upon the restart.

Two goals in three minutes midway through the second half, from Matthew Russell and league top scorer Darren Scanlan, who exploited a rare Tommy Boden error for his 40th goal in all competitions, put the issue in doubt.

However, Lamb more than made up for his earlier wastefulness with left-wing runs which brought two clinching goals in as many minutes.

Thompson's 73rd-minute far-post strike put Linnets back in the lead and, barely 60 seconds later, Michael Young produced an accomplished right-foot finish after running clear.

Linnets: Holcroft, Hughes, Flood, O'Driscoll, Boden, Loughlin, McCoy (Quirk 88), Scott, Thompson, Lamb, Young. Subs: Rollinson, Parle. Attendance: 162.
