CREWE FC reserves impressed first-team manager Ian O'Reilly with a 4-0 victory against Broadheath Reserves.

O'Reilly's men were handed a free weekend after their President's Cup clash at Gamesley was postponed for the second time, so the boss watched the second string.

Under the leadership of joint-managers Paul Lowe and Martin Gordon, they were keen to impress. Skipper Aidy Peers sent them on the way with the opener, and Luke Kennedy added a second.

After the break, Crewe weathered an initial storm before Ian Carr made the game safe. Jim Costigan completed the scoring with his fourth goal in three games, while Simon Buckley and keeper Steve Harding were outstanding.

O'Reilly said: 'I was impressed with the reserves, they played well. There are three or four we could call on if needed. In fact, if we were safe in the league I would have given a few some first-team experience.

'But we need all the experience we have in the side at the moment to keep ourselves alive, so that is not really possible.'

Crewe's clash with Gamesley will now be played at the Cumberland Arena, at 2pm on Saturday. The reserves travel to play Golbourne Reserves.
