WITTON ALBION have turned to Crewe Alex for three more signings - and that will inevitably mean there will be departures soon.

Jim Vince has enlisted central midfielder Reece Jones, 21, on the recommendation of Dario Gradi, and recently released youngsters Alistair Brown, a full-back and striker Anthony Marshall.

Jones has been at Crewe and Bolton Wanderers but has been out of the game for six months.

'He lost interest and now he needs to play regularly. He looks a handy player,' said Vince.

But Witton's summer recruiting means some players will be squeezed out as Vince trims his squad for the programme of pre-season friendlies.

He said: 'Some will go and they will include some recognised players.'

Albion are also giving trials to 6ft 1in former Port Vale reserves defender Keiran Houghton, while the comeback bid of Wes Simpson - who served Northwich Vics and Witton before dropping out of the game two years ago - has stalled because of a thigh strain.

Witton's first friendly is against Wigan Athletic Under 19s at home on Thursday next week.
