CHESTER City's management duo were united in the belief that they had been on the wrong end of some dubious decisions at Boston United.

Boss Mark Wright and assistant Graham Barrow blamed referee Jon Moss for making two crucial mistakes as the Blues slipped to a 1-0 defeat on Saturday.

The pair felt Moss was wrong to dismiss Kevin Sandwith and award the Pilgrims a 17th-minute penalty, claiming the defender did not intentionally handle the ball on the goal line.

Although City keeper John Danby saved Jamie Clarke's spot kick, the visitors struggled with 10 men and were beaten when Jamie Stevens netted a late winner - from a corner that Wright felt should not have been awarded.

When asked about the penalty incident, the Chester manager said: 'It was a ridiculous decision. The ball hit Kevin on the chest then rolled down his arm. Admittedly, we didn't start too well but having a man sent off didn't help.

'I'm sure if we had 11 players on the field, we would have taken the game to them. But it wasn't a good afternoon, particularly as the goal we conceded came from a corner that shouldn't have been awarded.'

Barrow added: 'The lad (Sandwith) is an honest lad and he says he didn't intentionally handle the ball. The ball hit him on the chest and rolled on to his arm.

'The linesman gave the decision, not the referee. That was definitely a key factor in the result.'

Injury-hit Boston went into the match with only 10 fit senior players at their disposal and could name only three subs - all teenagers - instead of five.
