Crewe 1, Coventry City 1: CREWE had to settle for a share of the spoils with Coventry after a hard-fought affair on Sunday.

Caroline Sloane's early goal made it five in five for her, but the visitors hit back before the break. The game was then dominated by defenders, with Beth Ragdale and Gemma Edwards in outstanding form.

A team spokesman said: 'We were on top for long periods but let our guard slip at the worst possible time. We needed to keep the ball but some sloppy play in the midfield presented the visitors the ball in the final third. But in the end, a draw was just about the right result, keeping us just two points off league leaders TNS.'

Crewe Reserves were within 10 minutes of a shock win at West Bromwich, but also ended with a 1-1 draw. Sarah Symonds, who hit the bar earlier, opened the scoring with a curling free-kick. Keeper Kate Marshall seemed destined to break the Baggies' hearts but the hosts equalised in the final stages.
