WITTON scored at both ends of the game and dominated all the play in between to complete a double over their Humberside visitors on Saturday.

They were acclaimed UniBond League club of the month before kick-off and made a good start towards winning December's honour.

Their unbeaten run - now 12 games - was never seriously threatened by Ferriby, who were outclassed by Witton's midfield and defence.

The attack could have made it a thorough job but missed a string of half-chances to repeat the four-goal walloping they doled out to the their opponents on the season's opening day.

Albion played their best football in the opening quarter of an hour. It was thrilling stuff but was unsustainable.

Mark Peers gave them the lead after only 90 seconds. He took a short corner to Steve Connors and, as he accepted the return pass inside the box, a gap appeared before him which he plugged with a shot inside the near post.

Five minutes later, Adam Warlow smacked the ball against an upright from the best of several openings they had already created.

Leon Wainman hoisted a shot over the home crossbar shortly after. As if the warning was enough to subdue Albion, their moves lost their excitement.

Interplay between Warlow and Mike Moseley in the 37th minute got them going again. Their exchange of passes ended with a desperate scramble at the foot of a post and before the break Rob Lloyd aimed weakly when the whole goal presented an inviting target.

The pattern of the game was unchanged after the break - Witton were again lively at the start. Chris Gaghan had penalty appeals dismissed when challenged robustly by Chris Gowen and Brian Pritchard's unchallenged header from Lloyd's free kick went by the far post with Moseley stretching to make contact.

A great forward pass by Tony Barras was chested down by Warlow but Connors was off target. So was Gahgan with two more chances.

Any attacks Ferriby wrung out of midfield were quickly strangled by the Albion defence, in which Pritchard and Liam Brownhill, an energetic prompter of his forwards, were superb.

A one-goal victory, unsatisfactory in size after scoring eight in midweek, loomed as the game moved into injury time. And it was then Alex Brown picked up the ball outside the box and fired a long-overdue second goal into the bottom corner.

The victory keeps Albion amid the thick of the promotion pack and they are beginning to look like they have the stamina to stay the course.
