THE previous week's elimination from the FA Challenge Vase competition was soon forgotten as Division One side Poulton Vics bounced back to earn a replay on Wednesday in the Pyke Cup.
On Saturday they then recorded a superb Cheshire FA Amateur Cup third round win at General Chemicals.
In midweek Vics trailed 1-0 to a goal from Cammell Laird's Ronnie Morgan, but kept their Pyke Cup hopes intact after Nicky Dillon equalised with 10 min-utes remaining.
Their place in the fourth round was assured thanks to a 2-1 result at Gen Chems, John Paul Stanhope and Mark Davies finding the net.
Saturday compounded a frustrating week for Cheshire Cup holders Cammell Laird, who were beaten 3-2 at Barnton. Eddie Jebb and Kevin Thompson netted Laird's consolations, while last term's finalists Heswall progressed after winning 3-1 at Castrol Social courtesy of a goal apiece from Mike Saunders, Peter McNulty and Colin Singleton.
Ashville were taken to extra time by Knutsford, but still had enough in the tank to succeed, Reggie Standish (2), James Kelly, Simon Donaghue and Paul Langley scoring to clinch a 5-4 decision.
At Marine Park, West Kirby had their passport to round four stamped after Tommy Baker, Matty Cass and James Evans scored in a fine 3-1 triumph over Mid Cheshire leaguers Bollington Ath.
Division Two sides Upton AA and Pavilions have it all to do again after their tie was abandoned in extra time after the Pavilions goalkeeper sustained a broken collar bone, at 3-3.
On the domestic scene, Division One leaders Newton are fast disappearing into the sunset and their lead at the top was extended to 12 points following Saturday's 3-0 eclipse of Maghull.
Aintree Villa's downward spiral continued after they were beaten 3-0 at Chris-tleton, but MANWEB returned to winning ways, debutant James Maloney firing a four-goal salvo in the 6-2 result over Ellesmere Port.
New leaders in Division Two are Merseyside Police who followed up a fine 3-2 midweek result over Ashville Res by beating New Brighton 4-3, Glen Crowder claiming all four goals.
Gary Reay (2), Paul Finnan and Yaz Hassan were responsible for the goals as reigning champions Poulton Vics Res beat Capenhurst Villa 4-1.
FC Pensby failed to impress and slumped 3-1 at home to promotion rivals Blacon YC.
A Paul McDonald double was supple-mented by further goals from John Morgan, Paul Hughes and Shaun Leatt as Cammell Laird Res posted a 5-2 win over relegation dodgers Manor Ath.
Bottom of the table Heswall Res scored through Anthony Riley, but continue to struggle after going down 2-1 to Christleton Res.
In Division Three, Bronze Social picked up an excellent point at second-placed Chester Nomads in a 3-3 stalemate. That enabled current leaders MANWEB Res to forge 10 points clear following a 2-0 victory over Capenhurst Res.
